Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
